The new upcoming "Tid-Bits" section in Oral Pathology
While I have tried to make Oral Pathology simple and digestible, most material I have presented on the website is available in standard textbooks like
a) “Shafer’s Textbook of Oral Pathology” edited by Rajendran R, Sivapathasundaram B,
b) “Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology” edited by Neville BW, Damm DD, Allen CM, Chi A or
c) “Oral Pathology: Clinical Pathologic Correlations” edited by Regezzi JA, Sciubba JJ, Jordan RCK
But the answers to some questions only stems from either a deep understanding of the subject (as a result of years of study) or by keeping up to date with the most recent research and review papers on the subject. That is why I thought I could introduce a new “Chapter section” in Oral Pathology called “Tid-Bits”. The idea (though abstract as of now), is to answer some questions like…
What’s the deal with precancerous lesions, precancerous conditions and oral potentially malignant disorders? I am confused with these terms. Could you explain?
Is “Chronic Hyperplastic Candidiasis” an oral potentially malignant disorder?
What is “Keratosis of Unknown significance (KUS)”?
If ameloblastoma is a tumor, why is one of its subtypes called “Unicystic ameloblastoma”?
What is storiform pattern in histopathology? Where is this pattern encountered?
The understanding of Oral Pathology, I had as an Undergraduate was minimal and superficial, something I got to know only after I started my Postgraduation in Oral Pathology. The questions I listed above are just a few examples of the sort of doubts you may have that may not necessarily be answered by reading standard textbooks. Reading recent research and review papers play a key role in updating your understanding as well as your knowledge of the subject.
This is probably what I may be trying to address with this section - get you more up to date with the subject and enhance your understanding of it.
Hopefully this would be a great exercise for me (got a lot of catching up to do with Oral Pathology) as well.
Best regards
