Baer et al. 1971, defined aggressive periodontitis as "a disease of the periodontium occurring in otherwise healthy adolescent, which is characterized by a rapid loss of alveolar bone around more than one tooth of the permanent dentition."
Aggressive periodontitis differs from chronic periodontitis by
Occurring primarily in adolescents and young adults,
Causing rapid destruction of the periodontium with very little or no plaque and calculus accumulation,
Occurring in healthy individuals with no systemic disease and
Having a genetic predisposition.
